Caffetteria

IMG_9292As we’ve mentioned before, we live in Independence. So we don’t make it over to the Kansas side very often for food. However, we heard rave reviews about the new Caffeterria Modern Cafe and Marketplace in Prairie Village and just had to check it out!

The vibe is super cute, and the goods they have to sell in the marketplace are fun and unique. You order up at the counter, which felt a bit like a Panera, but with better service and more unique dishes. The vibe is upscale yet casual, and fast. We saw multiple people coming in to grab meals to go that they must have called in ahead, and the servers greeted several regulars by name.

Caffetteria is owned by the same lady who owns The Mixx, a great fast lunch option for salads, soups, and sandwiches. There are 3 Mixx locations in KC and they are all always packed. IMG_9297

It was too hot to sit outside when we were there, so we’ll have to return in the fall when it is cool enough to enjoy Caffetteria’s outdoor patio.

For food, we started with the hummus, which was served with crackers and fresh vegetables. It was super tasty, and was a nice appetizer while we waited for our main dishes. The main course didn’t take long at all to come out to us, and unlike Panera, a server actually brought our food to our table.

What we ordered:

The Forager Paleo Bowl. Served with grilled steak, cauliflower rice, broccoli and kale, sunflower shoots, chilled wild mushrooms, and sunflower seeds. We subbed the chimichurri sauce for their cucumber tahini tzatziki, and we weren’t disappointed! We are crazy about all things tzatziki, and the addition of tahini was different and delicious! This bowl was very filling and tasted both healthy and comforting.

The Polynesian Poke Bowl. Yellowfish tuna with fresh greens, chilled rice noodles, avocado, seaweed, carrots, cucumbers, and pickled ginger. Topped with three different sauces–a red chili hoisin, thai chili lemongrass vinaigrette, and thai peanut sauce. Super fresh and tasty.

The Aprhodite salad, add salmon. A bright and fresh salad with field greens, bibb, cherry tomatoes, green beans, cucumbers, feta cheese, olives, and a citrus herb vinaigrette. There was a LOT of the vinaigrette, so in the future we’ll likely ask for it on the side.

For drinks we got a glass of wine and a bottle of beer.

For both an alcoholic drink and a great tasting dish, each meal ran around $20-$25.

We really enjoyed our trip to Caffetteria. Not sure we’ll make the trek out to Prairie Village just go, but next time we’re over there this will be our top pick for fast yet amazing food!
